What are Pet Wellness Exams?

egular wellness exams help keep your pet healthy at every stage of life. These routine visits allow our veterinary team to check your pet’s overall health. They also help us find early signs of illness before problems become more serious.

During a wellness exam, we perform a complete physical checkup. We may also discuss your pet’s diet, behaviour, lifestyle, and daily habits. Based on our findings, we can recommend vaccines, parasite prevention, and health screening when needed.

At Creekside Veterinary Hospital in Calgary, AB, we provide wellness exams for puppies, kittens, adult pets, and senior dogs and cats. We adjust each visit to match your pet’s age and individual health needs.

Routine veterinary checkups can help prevent health problems and support long-term wellness. They also give you a chance to discuss any changes or concerns with our veterinary team.

Our goal is simple: help your pet stay healthy, active, and comfortable throughout their life.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during a wellness exam?
We do a nose-to-tail physical examination, checking eyes, ears, teeth, lymph nodes, heart, lungs, abdomen, joints and skin. We also discuss your pet's weight, diet, behaviour and parasite prevention, and update any vaccines that are due.
How often should I bring my pet in?
Once a year for most adult pets. Senior pets - dogs over 7 and cats over 10 - benefit from twice-yearly exams because age-related changes can happen quickly. Puppies and kittens need more frequent visits in their first year.
My pet seems perfectly healthy. Do they still need a wellness exam?
Absolutely. Many serious conditions - dental disease, early kidney disease, heart murmurs, early arthritis - have no obvious symptoms until they are well advanced. A wellness exam is the single best way to catch something early, when it is easier and less costly to treat.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Any previous vaccine records or vet history you have, a fresh stool sample for a fecal parasite check, and a list of any questions or concerns. We can also request records from your previous clinic if you are switching vets.
